3. Meh. All that stuff is *SOCIALISM!*
So it's evil. All those services should be privatized so somebody can make money off 'em.

14. Bingo.
What they really don't like is the idea that "undeserving" people (read: minorities, the poor, immigrants, non-Christians) get benefits paid for with the hard-earned tax dollars of "deserving" people like themselves, and that the evil Government is making this happen.

6. The Free Market can take care of all that much more efficiently
Just like they have eliminated bureaucracy in health insurance.

Just like they fixed the financial market crisis.

Just like they are building high speed rail.

Just like they are leading the way in developing alternatives to fuel.

Just like they don't rely on the federal government for no-bid contracts.

good post, jillan

16. Hence, why conservoes HATE them
libraries of all stripes are taking brutal budget cuts across the country. An educated electorate is one of the cornerstones of democracy. Oh, the Founding Fathers would be puking all day if they saw what was being done in this country now, in their names...

10. Paul Ryan is going to be taking the reins of the country's budget... here's what he says

Question: Where are places that you believe the government can afford to cut spending?

Everywhere.

Question: Can you cite some specifics?

The entitlements are the big issue — that's the primary driver of our debt.

<snip>

...we really can't leave any stoned unturned. And my argument is the sooner we act to fix the budget, the better off everyone is going to be, and the more likely we can avoid a European austerity type of plan, where you have painful cuts to current seniors and tax increases that slow down your economy.

If we act soon, we can grandfather the grandparents, meaning make no changes to people who are currently at or near these programs, on these programs like Medicare or Social Security. We can make sure that they don't get affected, but we've got to make changes for the younger generations in order to save these products from insolvency and bankrupting the country.

If we keep postponing this, the numbers get deeper and worse. And you can't keep making that kind of promise, to prevent hits to people who are already on the programs. And so it's just so much smarter to do it on our own terms, in a gradual phased-in way, where we can protect people who have already retired, than to just blindly postpone and hurt everybody down the road.

Question: How is the budget written? Will the Republican caucus set the priorities? The leadership? The Budget Committee?

I'm going to do it in my committee.

__________

so besides the Supreme Court nominee votes, these are the long-term effects that idiots voting for GOP candidates will have on our country - guess the older folks didn't realize they were voting against their own interests, cuz FoxNews never mentioned that part
