21. Here is the deal with why I view it the way I do:

IF...this was the first time he had caved-okay, I get your point.
IF...this was the second time, eeeeh okay fine.

But EVERY single time he could have stood up and said "No." He did not. He decided that compromise is not what you achieve after working really hard to get everything you want, it is what you get the second you walk into the room.

Instead of saying "I want a single payer system..." He said "nope." So instead of getting at least the Medicare buy in (which is better than going for the single payer system right from the get go or a public option because it just requires a few modifications), we got a giant corporate giveaway.

Instead of demanding that we get DADT not only repealed but it should be considered against the law nationwide to discriminate anyone because of who they happen to love romantically plus let us repeal that anti-Constitutional DOMA...we got and still have nothing.

Instead of not only filing a suit against SB1070 we should have had a comprehensive plan that addresses not just OUR needs but the needs of the nations that keep having people run away from them...we have SB1070 and the DREAM Act continues to fall.

So why should I stand up for the President? He never stands up for anything he claims he believes in-even though I understand you have to govern the entire nation, he is only looking to one side, not both.

22. You've outlined "the deal," now, here's the problem with your deal.

It has never worked for Ds to take an all or nothing stand. In fact, it doesn't really work much in politics.

Teddy took an all or nothing stand with Nixon on HCR, and we got bupkis for the next 40 years. Hillary tried a go-it-alone gambit on HCR, and we got bupkis for the next 20 years. And the two of them were continuing the record of getting bupkis on HCR that went back to Teddy Roosevelt.

Obama got HCR passed. Not perfect, but a beginning, a break in the log jam. Why? Because he did what was possible, rather than taking an all-or-nothing stand, a stand that worked SO well in the past.

DADT - Obama is the first president to come out and state that he wants this policy overturned, a policy that was put in place by a Democratic president, in case you've forgotten. Geez, Obama didn't get done in two years what no president would even TOUCH for 17 years. Bad Obama! B-a-a-d Obama!

The fact is - and it is a fact, my friend - that had Obama "stood up and said no every time he could have," he wouldn't have had the legislative victories he had in his first two years. Repeal of DADT wouldn't even be up for a vote in the Senate.
And THAT'S the real deal.
