2. I think there are things we civilians will never understand about soldiers.
What's important is their why's. The man has goals, allow him those.

3. As civilians are obligation is not to abuse the great responsibility
and sacrifice our soldiers are prepared to make. That is why the question for these outrages loses need to be asked. There seems to be no evidence to require these great sacrifices.... Bring them home.

4. Did you read the last paragraph?
"I think he's a hero," said his wife. "He's happy to have paid that price and he wants to stay in the military if it all possible."

This is his. Not ours.

6. no, it's ours too.
it's absurd to say that citizens of a nation have no investment or right to judge or speak about the costs of war- and that's what your statement boils down to.

7. I'm talking people and you are answering abstract.
No one wants to see soldiers maimed or dead, that is a given. However, the soldier speaks for himself. I think he deserves that we allow him to, no matter how we choose to look at the issue.

8. Perhaps the line of questioning would've been more pertinent if he were drafted vs. enlisting.
Aside from that, though, we will simply bare witness to more images like this, a product of our wars.

12. "Dulce et Decorum Est":
Wilfred Owen
Dulce Et Decorum Est

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of disappointed shells that dropped behind.

GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!-- An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And floundering like a man in fire or lime.--
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

9. Would you have his losses be FOR NOTHING?
Nooo. We must honor and justify his losses by sending more people into the war, to keep the war going.

If we pull out, all that loss would have been for nothing.

So we continue...

Fighting in the Middle East since 1991.

There is no exit.

:hi:
