If so called fiscal conservatives worry so much about our children's future...
Edited on Sun Dec-12-10 10:08 AM by Tom Rinaldo
...why are they so eager to keep raiding the federal piggy bank with tax cuts while letting the infra structure of our nation continue to deteriorate? Why are they so keen on increasing the money lining their own pockets now while refusing to set aside funds for essential upgrades to our infrastructure that can keep the U.S. competitive in the 21st century with other advanced nations around the world?

We are maxing out the national credit card on gift certificates to the rich while the nation's roof is leaking and our wiring is under code. What are we leaving our kids? Massive debt and sub par housing, like a mansion from the 30's that has been left to sit and rot.

1. Who would have funded the interstate highway system in Ike's day
...if the thinking of today was in vogue then. And how would it have changed the economy that most of us came of age in had that investment not been made?

2. Most fiscal conservatives are against SCHIP and school food programs

That should tell you all you need to know about what they really think of children and their future. They could care less if children nowadays have health care or a couple of warm meals. Yeah, conservatives disgust me.

3. Very True. But I particularly hate the hypocracy of the tea baggers...
...who claim to be so worried about all the debt that our children will be forced to pay the interest on because of spending on programs like SCHIP and school food programs, while they complacently run this nation down to the ground refusing to invest in essential national upgrades while demanding refunds from the government to spend as they wish.

4. I guess they're only worried about their kids futures...so they're
piling up the money with their tax breaks and getting rid of the estate tax! Their kids will be fine. Ours...not so much.

9. I think this is exactly why
It's pretty clear they don't like or trust the government (esp the federal government) so they think they (and maybe even everyone else) is better off when the government has less money to spend and they have more in their pockets. If they are compassionate (albeit misguided) they think spending lots and time and money on charitable works is how to take care of others, not give any $ to the federal government. I think it explains why even those without much still support GOP policies.

6. Two Santa Clauses afforded the irresponsible
Aided by doublespeak, the "Conservatives" cut taxes and explode the size of government and debt. Never heard one bad word about their deficits during the past 8 years, though they all agree to a person that it was completely irresponsible and that they have to return to their "Conservative" principles.

We should stop calling them Conservatives and start calling them the Debtor Party, or something similar.

The objective was to put the Dems in the unenviable but responsible position of having to raise taxes and shrink government. The only programs the Republicans are willing to touch are SS, Medicare, and other social safety net programs.
