Governor Dean and Bernie Sanders are proud progressives.
Although I don't expect to ever see them on a ticket together, it would be nice to see.

When people say, "Where you gonna go?" or "You gonna just not vote at all?", I think of our proud progressives that might be persuaded to join the fight if it were necessary.

It keeps me from losing hope.

3. It`s so refreshing to hear plain talk from Dean and Sanders
rather than phrases gleaned from an Emoto-Meter in a Frank Luntz focus group or a DLC memo-writing confab.

4. Governor Dean is pretty much a moderate by national party standards
Edited on Sun Dec-12-10 06:27 PM by Recursion
He was against the Iraq war, which is why he became a hero to a lot of the left, but he's against gun control (on the national level at least) and he says NAFTA is a good framework that can use improvements, rather than that it needs to be scrapped. He supports TANF block grant extensions but is willing to see them tied to "welfare-to-work" programs. And of course he's famously pro-single-payer.

So basically he's a more or less a moderate Democrat with a few positions that stick out (in both directions). He's moderate enough that Anthony Pollina ran against him in 2000 on the Progressive ticket.

5. WHy would you want a losing ticket?
I appreciate finding candidates that agree with me, but I've backed enough losers to temper my enthusiasm with reality. Agreeing with me on issues is worthless if they'll never get elected to implement them. Howard Dean did a fine job as DNC Chair, but did poorly in the 2004 Presidential Primary, giving me no confidence he could run and win a national campaign. And as an avowed Socialist, Bernie Sanders would probably do even worse.

6. At least, you won't be lost.
You will know where you stand.

8. I know where I stand...
...and I'm realistic enough to know I'm not going to get everything I want, in exactly the form I want it. Fighting for what I CAN achieve is more important than standing for principles the Republicans will never begin to fight for.

7. That would be a great ticket.
Theirs would be a great Administration -- one of the all-time most important, certainly.

When he lived on Beverly Drive here in Dallas during that time.

Just blocks from where Bush lives now...
