'It's comforting to learn the incoming Republican-led Congress has nothing but serving the people on its mind.
Soon-to-be House Majority Leader Eric Cantor wrote a letter to his colleagues announcing that in 2011, the House will work 123 days and 32 weeks of session. Rock on!
...Except that the People's Chamber worked 148 days in 2009. That's 25 fewer days for the 112th Congress. Apparently since fewer Americans are working, their representatives have decided to work less too.
Rep. Cantor said this was part of an effort to "stress quality over quantity." "Gone are congratulatory resolutions," he said. "Post office namings will be handled on a less frequent basis." Indeed, resolutions and post office namings notoriously drain Republicans of precious time that could be spent voting no on everything.'
