7. It's just a conclusion I've come to after spending a few years on this

and other political discussion boards, observing much of our media, etc.

It's frustrating to see polite lies repeated again and again stand as acceptable, yet calling someone out on bullshit is tsk-tsked.. I'm not talking about DU specifically (although it certainly applies here as well), but in general.

To make informed decisions about politics (or anything else for that matter) we need to start from a point of truth. We are so far removed from that truth right now. I'm sick of seeing 'civility' trump truth. I wish sometimes it was more acceptable to say to a liar that they are a liar rather than having to politely debunk them for the 80th time...

the "truth" as I see it, is many are willing accomplices to this new paradigm, as it is far easier than looking at all of the different perspectives available. Including those on these discussion boards.

I think it's important we allow for uncertainty though, as the Universe is relative... one's person "truth" is another's reason to hate.

9. I find it curious that you put the word truth in quotes.

Sure in some things relativity is important. Like religion and personal preferences

But there are other things that can be measured in tangible terms and looked at from a materialist perspective, and politics and economics are among them. We can see, for example, how wealth has gotten more and more concentrated and the wealthy have gotten moreso despite the recession. We can measure that and examine it. But even that simple truth is obscured by our typical political conversations.

One's perspective is worthless if it isn't based in reality. Relativism is a very slippery slope.

11. part of the problem is the assumption by many here

that the "truth" (yes in quotes again) is that those of us willing to accept this tax compromise (for example) is that we don't mind giving the rich a windfall. I for one, hate it. But I'm not willing to sacrifice the well-being of those less well off than myself (and that is not to say I am rich.... I am not). There are so many layers, it is easy to get lost in ones own political truth.

And I also believe all of this is wrong (giving all this money to the already well off) on so many levels, but do not think we have a system in place to tear it all down and rebuild without casualties among the weakest among us. It is simply not right morally on many levels, as has been pointed out.... but it is, in my view the only way forward right now.

And that circles me back around. One can measure all they want, but one thing we cannot escape is time. And it is definitely relative in every aspect of our lives. When we have less to give our families, time is of the utmost essence. Some things, cannot be escaped.
