Obama's judicial pick seen as snub to TN congressional Dems

With his nomination of Nashville lawyer Kevin Sharp to a federal judgeship, President Barack Obama chose to curry favor with Tennessee's powerful Republican senators and snubbed Tennessee's Democratic congressional delegation.

The decision lays bare the political clout and maneuvering needed to land a federal judgeship — a lifetime appointment.

Republicans preferred Sharp, but Democrats wanted Nashville lawyer Kathryn Barnett.

In this case, the president had to decide between two lawyers from families with deep political connections — one with Republican ties, the other Democratic.

Sharp, 47, is the son-in-law of prominent Republican supporter and fundraiser Lew Conner.

Barnett, 43, is the daughter-in-law of former Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Will Cheek Jr.

Both are Democrats. But in the end, it came down to which one Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker would support.

they will never vote on any of his legislation, so what is the point?

5. The obvious thing here is that Obama picked the judge on his own merit

and not because of the ties of the people in the family.
Both judges are DEMOCRATS and their own resume is what counts!
I find this particular nitpicking in the OP article ridiculous.
