So Sad: Republicans are happier than Democrats.
http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/060315_happiness_pew.html

<snip>

Republicans have been happier in surveys going back to 1972, the Pew study notes.

The reason might seem obvious, since "Republicans tend to have more money than Democrats, and-as we've already discovered-people who have more money tend to be happier," the report states.

But even after adjusting for income, poor Republicans are happier than poor Democrats, and rich Republicans are happier than rich Democrats.

5. If you aren't paying attention, you aren't outraged.
They tend to be image oriented. They don't dig past the surface. They don't see the real truth. The deep truth. The one beyond the surface. Everything's fine.

Look at John Dean. He has progressively gotten less and less happy as time goes on.

7. It's a conservative thing.
Most of the republicans I know are very upbeat and positive in how they live there life. In fact, there are alot of aspects of conservative "culture" that I kind of admire.

Of course, no matter how many times you prove them wrong they still insist they are right. It was like thet when I lived with my Republican Aun and Uncle. They were NEVER wrong about anything....so I learned not to argue with them.

9. Unfortunately intelligence does not bring on an appearance of
happiness. Of course it does not make you feel gloomy either. I think the average intelligent person is content, sort of neutral. Some times I envy the ignorant people I know who go around smiling all of the time. I do not envy them when disaster strikes due to their ignorance. The bottom line is not to envy a happy person who is about to have an accident.

16. Bullshit. Every Republican I know is a miserable asshole. Every single one.
My theory about these surveys is that the people who buy into conservative myths i.e., traditional marriages are the best, pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps, American supremacy, etc., are not likely to admit to anyone that they aren't fulfilled by them. They probably wouldn't know real happiness if it bit them in the ass, unless one of their cherished authority figures told them to be happy.

Democrats are unhappy because we're more likely to be critical thinkers, realists, and rebels.

19. "It is not the happiness of the individual convert that concerns me,
it is the happiness of mankind. If you genuinely desire the happiness of mankind, certain forms of ignoble personal happiness are not open to you."

I am not sure who wrote that. Could be Bertrand Russell or Vannevar Bush.

26. Republicans pretend there are no problems
They don't face reality, there is always an excuse for everything, even obvious disasters (like Iraq). It's not that they are happier, it's just that they are masters of putting on a facade.

To be unhappy, one either needs to be economically deprived or have some form of emotions other than greed and hatred.

28. People think Republic party supporters are happy because they're whistling.
They fail to realize that the whistling is the sound of air rushing in one ear and out the other. The eyes rotating in opposite directions at once is a good tip-off, though.

29. It's all a circle.. Rich republicans have money & power
and CONTROL over their own lives. THAT's what brings happiness..

Poor republicans often have conviction of their ideals and fanatical religion.

The rich have benefitted from pushing the western version of the "72 virgins in heaven", so poor people will consistently vote against their own best interests, in the hopes that "there is a better life awaiting them"..

They are in a symbiotic relationship and both need each other..
