Emotional Blackmail
Edited on Tue May-29-07 12:41 PM by LoZoccolo
Threaten to make things difficult if you don't do what they want.

Constantly threaten to end the relationship if you don't give in.

Regularly ignore or discount your feelings and wants.

Tell you or imply that they will neglect, hurt themselves, or become depressed if you don't do what they want.

Shower you with approval when you give into them and take it away when you don't.

Use money as a weapon to get their own way.

I am fascinated by personality disorders, as when I was growing up I recognized people who either didn't seem to understand that they were not acting respectful toward people, or seemed to avoid knowing that everyone around them knew it they were acting that way. I think we have reached an age where some people try to use emotional blackmail as a political tactic as well. This article goes a ways in helping people recognize it.

1. There is a psychopath in the White House...
actually there are several, so I think your analogy is very astute.

3. Sounds like something everyone does to a certain extent.

When you center your life around trying to be a part of other people's dramas is fairly common too.

And should be avoided as well.

4. People should also not try to fetch things out of the garbage disposal when it's on.
Or install CFL light bulbs into lights with dimmers.

5. Very interesting LoZoccolo.
Indeed this tactic is used politically. It was used to the detriment of our nation and beyond in 2000.

Hey, I think this is the first time I've spelled your user name correctly! :hi:
