I'd like to introduce myself...

I just joined DU. My Husband Robeson told me I should join because now there is a crafts group. I like doing lots of different crafts. Quilting, crocheting, knitting, rubberstamping, scrapbooking.

Piecing quilts by hand is my favorite thing right now! I am putting the border on a quilt that I have been working on since Feb 2006.

I look forward to talking with all of y'all.

1. Welcome!

I have just recently started some quilt blocks. It has been a longtime dream of mine to learn to quilt. I have made three duck blocks and am hoping to make them into a wall hanging for my sister's duck room after I get a few more done. They each have 23 pieces, so it is time consuming.

I always watch Carol Duvall and see the neat things they do with rubber stamps, but so far havent picked any up.

We are doing a crochet along now, with a slipper. If I knew how to post a link to the thread I would, but I am sure you can find it.

How are you making your duck blocks? Are you piecing or doing applique?
Have you tried foundation paper piecing?

I saw the crochet thread and the slipper is really cute...But, I promised myself to not start anything else until I finish this quilt. I am almost there!

Can you give me a link to some information on the foundation paper piecing. I am surprised my ducks have come out as well as they have, at is my first attempt. But, I have sewn for years.

At some point I might figure out how to post pictures on here, and post a duck block !

What I am currently working on is in the folder Nearly Insane. All the blocks are 6". I have been working on it...FOREVER!!! I have all the blocks done now and am sewing on the borders.

We're happy to have you! :hi:

I made a quilt years ago but haven't tried one since. Hearing about everyone's projects has inspired me to not get stuck in a rut and try something different for a change. I'm very busy with work and the weddings of two daughters (one down and one to go!) so crocheting is easy because you just sit down and pick up your project and your hook but one of these days, I can set up a sewing room and get some other things going again.

You sound like you have your hands full with work and weddings at the same time!! Crocheting is a great way to try to relax. I think quilting is relaxing too..it just takes a little more preparation to get it to the portable, pick up and go stage!

13. Hatties Hen House Variation 1

This one jumped out at me right away. You see the patterned fabric and then the white pieces jump out. and back and forth it goes. Love it!

18. That block is very simple ....

but graphic-isn't it. I made it with one of the reproduction fabrics but it looks very modern. I love making things with lots of different blocks-I guess I get bored too easily if I do the same over and over. I love quilts made of only a block or 2 repeated though.

That pattern is from the book Dear Jane by Brenda Papadakis. The book doesn't show you how to put it together though. The Dear Jane CD has the patterns that you can print out.I started my Dear Jane quilt with just the book and was tracing the patterns and then the CD came out and I just LOVED it!!! It made the prep work sooo much easier!!!

20. Prolific..or OBSESSED!!!

I just love to piece. Once I started qulting my other crafts have kind of taken a back seat-I still do them but I have to ..be in the mood. You know what I mean?
If you try another I would love to help--there are so many easier ways to do things now and tools to help!

I am a night owl too! I just woke up. I've worked nights for 30 years and even when I am off I just stay up all night and ...sew!

I usually do all the piecing by hand and some of the quilting but the actual quilting is not what I find relaxing. I send alot of my stuff out to be quilted on the big longarm machines.

I've been a DUer for going on three years now, though my post count surely doesn't reflect it. I lurk daily but don't put my 2 cents worth in too often.

Now that there's a craft forum, however, that may change. I love to sew, bead, knit, paint, arrange flowers, do computer crafts, embroidery, quilting, origami. My passion is crochet. Learned it from my mother, who learned it from her mother. Over some 40+ years of practicing the art of crochet, I've used steel hooks, plastic hooks, bamboo, aluminum, acrylic, hand-carved wood and what-have-you with thread, string, fishing line, yarn of all weights and bulk, wire, plastic bags, fabric strips, even pine needles.

It's great to be able to share a love of crafting with other lefties!

I love crochet too!!:hi: My Grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was 8 or 9. Like you--I think I have used everything available.:D
I get in different moods and lately I have been mostly quilting--but crochet is always likely to pop up at any time!

THAT's the question of the ages. More like, what am I NOT working on! ;)

I got a new Pfaff Select sewing machine for my January birthday, so my current project combines crochet and sewing. Hubs and I have three granddaughters, so I'm making the girls some easy-breezy summertime dresses that could be used for jumpers later in the year. The bodices are crocheted, the skirts are made of bright little calico prints. I sewed on my grandmother's old singer treadle for years, then had an electric Kenmore that *gasp!* made buttonholes! The Pfaff is a doozy with its fancy-schmancy walking foot. Runs through multiple thicknesses like a hot knife through butter.

In my "unfinished works of art" category, I have a purse, a baby dress, a rose-motif afghan and a couple of towel-toppers to finish crocheting (along with at least a dozen projects I want to start, haha!); kitchen curtains to finish sewing; a couple of small cross-stitch projects to complete and frame; a bracelet to finish beading; and a bunch of small painting projects in the works. Sheesh.

I guess I'm one of those people who find more thrill in starting a new project than in closing the deal.
