Origami, anyone?

I started getting interested in origami when I subbed for a geometry class a couple of years ago. They were making eight point stars that could also be made into a wreath or picture frame.

It has only been in the last few months, though that I've been really getting into origami. My husband had a triple bypass and the whole time he was in surgery, I was folding a paper vase and flowers for the cardiac unit family waiting room. I found it very calming.

The last time I looked, the origami vase filled with origami flowers was still there.

The most complicated thing I've made so far is a reindeer. I have made four and five point Saar Stars. They make great ornaments for a Christms tree and they also look a lot like flower if a stem and leaves are added. I'm probably a late state beginner or an early intermediate right now.

If you've got any designs or tips, I'd love to hear them. (I'm having trouble getting the frog base to work out right!)

the most elaboate piece I've ever done is a swan.

2. I'm trying to get a bunch of stuff together so that I can teach a

beginning origami community enrichment class. When I get it all done, I'll take some pictures of my collection and try to figure out how to post them.

There are quite a few papers for "shapes," but the real find is all the chiyogami--origami paper. There's a lot of different designs, and they are gorgeous, even printed on an inkjet printer.

I got started doing origami after I bought one of those "origami a day" calendars for half price around the first of the year. Here's a few:

4. What a cool site! I purchased some paper via eBay, where they sell gorgeous papers.

A few months ago I had a yen (pardon the expression) to make peace cranes! I made a few and stopped. Maybe some of these designs will inspire me!

8. For a little while I was getting the hang of the special folds

that are used a lot in the books, the ones that are impossible to follow from the diagrams. Then I was off to learning knots when my son got a little older for boy scouts. I think I will take another stab at it.

10. You can make jewelry out of origami paper also

With the help of a few glass beads and some microscope slides and Mylar tape and organza ribbon--
