Knitting needles as weapons!
My no. 2 knitting needles had been so used and whittled down, that they started to shred up my fingertips while I was knitting! This time I bought two pair, and my fingertip is finally healing! Ouch!

2. I will try that next time.
I didn't mind springing for new ones, since they were less than $2 a set.
