Beading and jump rings - help
I want to attach a toggle clasp to a bracelet but, I'm having a heck of a time trying to attach the jump ring to both the bracelet and the toggle clasp. If I spread the jump ring too much it will catch on everything. It's a real bugger to work with. Is there a special tool or a secret way to attach these devils?

Thanks :hi:

1. Use two pliers - one in each hand
Hold the jump ring parallel to you with the opening at the top.

Do not pull the ring apart horizontally to open it.

Open it by twisting one side either forward or backward.

Insert the clasp onto the jump ring.

Reposition and close the jump ring in the same manner that you opened it - by twisting forward or backward.

Be sure to butt the ends of the jump ring together as close and tight as possible.

Done.

3. You can do it by yourself

You might also be interested to Google chainmaille or visit www.theringlord.com and view the gallery (part of the forum there).

Chainmaillers (aka maillers) are folks who weave jewelry, chains and even armor by connecting jumpt rings.

I'll need to get another type of jump ring. The ones I see at these websites are a single ring. The ones I bought - don't know how to explain other than they look like they've been wrapped around a pencil and after three turn are cut to make a ring. That's why I've been having so much trouble with them. I get it now - just need the right jump ring.

When I can do this I may change more than one clasp! :hi:

5. I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. What you have is a split ring
At least I think that's what it is, without being able to see it. It's kind of like one of those rings you put keys on, correct?

I have NOT checked out these videos but you might want to try looking at this and see if it helps.
