What are you working on now?

My current projects.....a counted cross stitch table runner for spring, quilting a Christmas wall decoration, and knitting a sweater that I am copying from one of my favorite sweaters.

Cheers

1. Quilted projects and a few counted cross stitch projects are in the wings.
My work table is on loan so I can't do much with quilting or sewing unless I take over the dining room. I think that I'll knock off a counted cs project (woven breadcloth with a decorative border)or perhaps try to finish the partially stitched needlework kit that I picked up at a thrift store while I wait for the table to be returned.

2. A lace shawl.
This scan doesn't do it justice. The yarn is baby alpaca, very fine (about the size of a #30 crochet thread) knitted on a size 6 needle.

71. It's taking me a while
I can only do about a dozen rows at a time before I start going crosseyed and that thin yarn starts disappearing. But I do like how it turns out and my next project (for which I have all the supplies) is a lace baby sweater and cap.

I haven't done it in a while, although there was a time when you couldn't tear me away from it. I've even set up at craft fairs with my beadwork in the past, but again--not in several years. Lately I've been doing a lot of knitting, which I posted about elsewhere.

5. A counted cross stitch piece called "Magnolias and a Peach"
It's turning into a LOT of work, but should be absolutely gorgeous when I finish (whenever that is). What makes it so beautiful is that there are subtle shades of white and yellow for the magnolias and blue for the vase. That means I need a lot of good light in order to work, but I think any eye strain will be worth it with this project.

6. Several half-finished cross stitches
I've hardly touched them in a long time, been wasting too much time on this stupid computer. I need a kick in the pants, maybe this group will help motivate me. One I'm going to get at is Deco Spirits by Mirabilia:

I've finished "Earth," but from there I'm doing the panels in a different order: earth, air, fire, water. I'm about half-way through "Air." It's very cool, lots of metallic braid, which can be annoying to use, but the final product is worth it.

I have done crewel embroidery, tapestry, beading jewelry to wear and sell, and used to hand paint shirts for my sons when they were babes. Right now I am just involved with the crystal pendants.

49. Thank you all for a the wonderful compliments!
It makes the effort well worth it.

The afghan took about 3 months to complete, working on it as many hours in front of the TV as I could stand.

The yarn is Aunt Lydia's, but that's all I can tell you about it because it was given to me without the labels (she had rolled all the skeins into balls and tossed the labels, then couldn't remember anything other than it's washable/dryable). I've looked all over for more just like it, but haven't found any yet. It's fairly narrow gauge, very soft and quite light in weight. If I ever run across it I'll post about it.

70. Beautiful work! I love the crochet popcorn stitch.
That reminds me of the baby afghan I made for my firstborn (he's now 33). He treasured it and kept it in his room the whole time he was growing up, until he was in his 20s. I'm not sure what happened to it, but I think it finally just fell apart. I'd like to make him another one if I could track down the pattern.

14. I have a small Fall wall quilt that I'm trying to finish, a hand-dyed cashmere
scarf in feather and fan stitch, and some feather and fan toe-up socks (yes I like feather and fan--it's easy and it looks beautiful). I have some hand-dyed blue-faced leicester fiber on my spinning wheel that I hope to make some socks with. I've been trying to clean some unprocessed fleece that I received as a door prize at a fiber festival last year, but it's been put aside for a while. I need to wait until it's a little warmer so it can dry outside.

Unfortunately, I've spent more time painting flowerpots lately than I have anything else--quick, fun, and easy, and it's a cheap way to make some pretty pots for my plants.

Oh, and I've been trying to put together a project journal. I bought a leather-bound blank journal, and I've been pasting in photos of my projects and writing down information like needle size, yarn info, etc. I haven't gotten very far, but it's definitely on my list of things to catch up on before spring. I also paste business cards from shops, fiber artists, etc., in the back so I have them as a reference.

what I'm doing with a pattern. I'm a very slow knitter, so it helps to write it down and have it as a reference. That way I also can go back and see what I've done if I want to do the same thing again.

Notes are a good thing!

have three more to start in the next few months. Two I will sell to a co-worker to give as gifts and one is to give to a friend of mine who is expecting a baby boy in June. I also have a flannel rag quilt in the works for my newest grandson who is 5 weeks old. I have most of the squares cut, but haven't decided on block placement just yet. My beads are calling to me as I haven't gotten them out since before Christmas. I want to make some matching necklace and earring sets for my daughter and myself for spring and summer.

It's kind of a slow process. The yarn is really pretty - shades of purple, turquoise and magenta, with some earth tones. I'm just learning to knit, and as I said in bi_baby's thread, I seem to be a little bad at it. But it's coming along. I just need a little help here and there. :)

38. I'm knitting a baby blanket.
I saw this baby blanket in a knitting magazine a few years back, and when I finished my last project, I decided to buy the yarn, baby wool, and start knitting, even tho the babies in my vicinity have blankets already. I figure there's always going to be another baby somewhere.

It's in lemon yellow, edged with green. The pattern is squares of garter and stockinette stitch (I think that's what they're called in English, I learned to knit in Norwegian LOL) and there'll be a rose in the center in the front, in two shades of green and two shades of purple. There are also patterns for a jacket, dress, pants, and cap with the same rose pattern, that I'm itching to do. I've gotten a lot farther with the blanket than I thought I would, because I've been laid up the past 2 1/2 weeks with a sprained ankle. For a whole week, the only thing I did was sit with my laptop in my lap, watching Supernatural, movies, and knitting!

I also have a table runner with satin stitch embroidery in the pipeline, I've done half of it, and I have finished a square table cloth in the same pattern, but I usually embroider in the summer and knit in the winter, because of the light.

Of course, then there are the constant socks that I pulled out at the county Dem meeting today to keep me quiet and the million other things I should be working on. Some people do one thing at a time start to finish, others have many "balls in the air." I'm the latter.

A co-worker/friend and I went last weekend to the big gem and jewelry show in Tuscon to buy beads and supplies. So many gorgeous stones, gems, beads, etc. Especially love the African trade beads...lots of bright colors. I think I'm ready to start on my first necklace tomorrow.

Seeing what all here are doing makes me feel like a slacker, lol!!:boring:

as modeled by a cutout of Mike Nelson from MST3K:

Made the hat for Deep13 -- Cousteau was a boyhood hero to him.

58. Working on a throw
for my son. I started this almost a year ago when I was just learning how to knit. It's basically about 8 scarves of different widths and yarns. They need to be sewn together. Seemed like a good idea at the time. My son really likes it so I have to finish it now. I just finished a hat (for myself, the first thing I made for me!) and am working a scarf to go with it. It's a three strand wool and rayon yarn, blue, magenta and green. I have a teddy bear going too and a little black evening bag on needles somewhere upstairs.

60. I'm determined to finish an afghan
Too many years ago - okay, in 1996 - I halfway finished a crocheted, ripple afghan. But some things started jumping off with my parents' health. So, I rolled it up with the yarn and instructions and put it in an empty popcorn can. It's sat there ever since.

Yesterday, I opened it back up and the yarn felt so soft. I counted rows, read instructions, got an understanding of the pattern and was able to figure out where to go from here.

The pattern is alternating 6 rows of ripples in a solid cranberry color with 6 rows of rippled variegated yarn in avocado green with cranberry.

66. Did you protect the picture with a glaze of some sort?
Poly clay is pretty versatile, then.

68. I just posted this on the knitting thread as part of a longer note
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 03:20 AM by Raksha
so I'll repost it again here to save time.

I recently bought three cones of 2-ply wool (sport weight) from Wilde Yarns, an old American mill in Philadelphia. It's not soft like a Merino (more like a Shetland) but reasonably priced for a pure wool yarn. Right now I'm working on my first Fair Isle project--a basic beanie-type hat in lavender and white. I've done swatches before, but this time I'm doing it the traditional (easier) way, working in the round and holding one color on each hand. I'm working my background color English-style and my pattern color Continental-style.

This is, of course, in addition to all my unfinished projects--mostly knitting at the present time, and one crochet scarf. Actually, make that two crochet scarves--there's another one that's finished, but I need to add the fringe and block it. I assume I don't need to explain to anyone on this board about UFOs!

Edited to fix typo.
