help me get back in my sewing room. I think my mojo left and I love to sew. I did a couple of prom dresses last Spring. sigh. I used to sew constantly. :hi:

Prom dresses....sewing for my most dreaded group...the teenage female.

I used to design and sew ice skating dresses....there is nothing worse than the teenage girl...well except for her "skating mom".

Have you tried quilting? Satisfies the creativity and sewing bug at the same time.....best part no teenage girl to fit it to.

4. I enjoy the fitting

and she's very appreciative. I was trying to post a pic but my photobucket skills are lacking. I did a Vogue vintage pattern in an apple green poly shantung. I have been heard to say "I don't quilt yet."

I would consider myself a current sewist! :)

I made my own prom dress back in 1973. It was a fairly simple halter dress, however. :hi:

3. I hear ya! I did a lot of theatrical costuming (and won some prizes

in costuming contests), but I haven't done any sewing for the last few years. The last big project I did was when a fourth grade teacher asked me to do sixteenth century costumes for the fourth grade play.

She left it rather late in asking me, though, and even later getting the fabric to me. I ended up building twelve full costumes and about six other pieces of costumes for her in three days. :crazy:

I haven't felt much like sewing since. And my son's Halloween costumes get cut out, but not sewn. :cry:

6. Ooooo I hear you

My husband used to threaten to move out during Ice Show season and Regional competitions. Between the lycra, crystals and crying girls I surprised we are still married.

I thought my costuming days were over but my sisters kids are young and my sister doesn't sew.

8. I misstated. That was just the worst time-wise job I had. I did four

years of as costumer of a Passion Play. I once made about seventy costumes in a three week period, but biblical robes are really easy to make. The Salome-type dance costumes done in nylon chiffon were a bit-ich. And I HATE making more than one of the same design. I ended up making costumes for two different sets of dancers: one set for nice wholesome Jewish village girls and one set for Pontius Pilot's exotic dancers.

I also did five seasons as the costumer for a play about the founding of a famous city in the US. Since those were sixteenth century costumes with loads of detail and fabric, I am happy that I only had to make about five or six full costumes per year.

The only real problem was that the two shows overlapped.

My sewing machine was running all day long well into the night and long after my husband went to bed during those days.

I did it for the love of the theatre cause I think the most I ever made in payment if I matched dollars to hours was about $0.50 per hour. :D

I certainly didn't get rich doing it!

9. I've lost my mojo, too.

I used to sew a lot of my clothes, but, man, it's gotten so expensive that it's not really worth it unless you're doing something very creative and special.

I haven't had a machine in a while, and I bought a used one several months ago. I was amazed at how fumble-thumbs I was with it. I need to do some simple quilt piecing and see if I can get back in the swing of things.

11. Practicing Sewist

I'm a practicing sewist and spend almost every spare minute in the sewing room.
Well, until Thursday when my sewing machine got sick.
She's in the sewing hospital and it's driving me crazy.

Those sewing machine hospitals are expensive, and I freak if I'm without sewing therapy. Last month I took a maching apart myself and it's still working. ( knock on a wood spindle) I hope yours is well soon and back humming in your happy home.

15. i used to love to sew

mostly for financial reasons. then finances (and clothing prices) changed and i just lost interest. i even made a wool coat once. it's knitting for me now...
