What was your first ride
Ok, we have a thread about what we're riding currently, so, what was your very first ride?

I had a Honda Mini Trail Z-50 identical to this one. I was around 9 or so when I got it. Great times :)

1. BSA Shooting Star 441...
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 02:28 PM by Hand
One big thumping 441cc cylinder, vibrated enough to fuse your wristbones, leaked oil in the grand BSA tradition, and had a bad habit of conking out, oh, every 100 miles or so (electrics by Lucas, aka the Prince of Darkness). Loads of fun in its way, though.

2. Fantastic bike
in its day, still wouldn't mind having one.

Ahh, those Lucas elecrtics. I had a BSA 650 Rocket and later a Triumph Bonneville. I would go from having the most wonderful ride of my life to standing on the roadside screaming at the bike in the span of a few minutes.

My father got it for 199.00 at sears in 1967. I've been on two wheels ever since.

my best friend had one of those. He'd run off and leave my mini-trail on the street, but when we left the road and headed into the trails, I was the king :)

11. My 20-something brother...
...tried to teach me to ride (at age 10) on a Bultaco 360 Pursang. It was less than successful, but somewhat spectacular. :wow:

I blame it on the backwards shift lever. ;)

9. I've not been riding as long as some folks here
but my first ride was a Vespa LX 50....

It looks a lot like my Vespa LX 150 except it didn't go as fast, especially up hills.

17. 1942 Harley
Edited on Thu May-03-07 09:12 PM by OxQQme
Dad bought it for me when I turned 16 in 1956. Ex military 45 inch flathead. Three speed and reverse, tank shifter. Had the frame lugs for a side car. Dad had a Mustang that he rode to work on. Couple of Cushmans (one a three wheeler with the delivery box in back.
Many more over the years--couple of Triumphs, a BSA Victor, an Aermachi 250, a TWN (what a weird engine, two cylinders, one for the intake/ one for exhaust/ forked con rod connected pistons to a single crank pin)
Wish I still had all of them

These aren't mine, just pics from the internets...

18. Amazing.
I have never heard of the TWN engine. Now I've heard of everything. Two pistons. Obviously a two stroke. Weird!

And that Harley, I thought that was an Indian. A guy down the street had one just like the picture.

Now I'm sitting here recalling all of the cycles I've ridden. Like the nutty Honda Dreams. Kawi triples. Hodaka leading link front ends.

Your post has made me all nostalgic.
