Riding time is becoming rare
Its starting to get chilly. Most of our nights are below freezing now, the days are blustery. Fall is always an embarrassment for me because it high-lights my tendency toward procrastination. There was one year that I had my firewood in by the 4th of July, but that was long long ago in a youth far far away. So here I am right dead in the middle of the prettiest time of year, absolutely prime time for riding in WV, and I'm runnin' a chain saw until I'm a quivering pool of shit wanting only for a hot shower, a couple of aspirins, something to eat, and the sleep of the dead.

Yesterday I couldn't take it any more and jumped on the bike and fled for my life. A clear blue sky, gusty winds, 40 degree temperature, and fall colors at their most beautiful. When the leaves are about half off of the trees, that's when I like it best. You can see forever into the forest, you can see what geologists know. It hasn't rained very much this year at all and Cheat River's water is as clear as air. I stop often when I take that ride. There's an 8-mile stretch that winds with the river between Kingwood and Rollsburg, WV on which there is only one house. You can stop where you like to camp or fish or kayak or just walk on the rocks. I'm a rock-walker.

It was cold enough for me to stop at a Tractor Supply and buy a pair of gloves. If I'd had the money I'd have bought a log-splitter too. The chill of the day and the aches from the morning's wood kept me down to about 100 miles. Its suppose to snow tonight and for the next two days.

Ride 'em like you stole 'em folks.

1. Sounds like a great outing!
When I get the urge, providing there is no accumulated snow on the ground, I go. As I get older I see the wisdom of Widder Products--heated vest and gloves and a highly prized cold weather riding suit! Nothing better! Besides where else can I get such disbelieving looks except perhaps at freep? Keep the rubber side down! Wish you took pics, I was almost there with you. . .

2. I'm afraid mine is going to sleep (maybe this weekend)

the time change this weekend and the temps have about done her in for the winter. MAYBE get one more ride in this weekend (short) but I'm afraid that is about the end.

I'm sad. :(

C'MON SPRING!!!
