Red Kote sealer?

Has anybody ever used this on the inside of a gas tank? I think I have problems with the inside of my tank flaking off and stopping up the fuel screen. A new tank is expensive and I want to avoid it if I can.

I have seen him use it. You can clean the tank first with muriatic acid (Put a cup or two of acid in the tank and rotate the tank every so often for about 30 minutes or so. If you have heavy rust then you may have to leave the acid in longer. It should make the inside of your tank look like new metal. then, drain acid back into a bottle and rinse tank with solvent or non-oil base paint reducer and let dry). You can, before cleaning the tank with acid, just simply drop a few nuts and bolts in the tank and shake real well with some type of cleanser (this knocks residual scale and rust off the inside).

Anyway, the Red Kote works like a champ when applied correctly. :hi:

I'm thinking about it, especially since a new tank isn't exactly cheap.

2. Carb or FI?

I've heard that coating stuff winds up in carbs. YMMV. :shrug:

5. Don't try this at home. Try a radiator repair shop

They should be able to de-scale the inside of the tank better than the average amateur, then re-line it. Cheaper than a new tank, and keeps you away from some really nasty chemicals. Muriatic acid isn't too bad, but the drying agents can be very nasty (Acetone, MEK, etc).

You should remove any glued-on kneepads or chrome bits before taking the tank in. And, the process will likely ruin the paint, if that matters to you.

Damn, if it's going to ruin the paint I'll probably just go ahead and replace the tank. I was wanting to go with a bigger tank eventually anyway.
