Poll question: Need some advice about correct windshield position... please?
I took the windshield off my bike the first month I had it because I felt like I couldn't see well enough through it. I'm going to get it cut down, now that I'm up to higher speeds & really see the need for it. Now the question is, well, how low should I go? I'm getting conflicting advice.

Any words of wisdom?

1. Below the eyes is good enough
All it has to do is deflect the wind a little, and you can ride comfortably. I switched from a high windshield to a low one and gained a lot of high (70+) speed stability, especially when passing semis. The bigger windshield made the bike feel unstable next to the big trucks (big fear factor).

If I get caught in the rain, I can just lean down lower over the gas tank and get completely behind the windshield. Even then, I usually don't bother. I use a full helmet, so bugs, sand, sleet, hail, and rain don't sting like they did when I used the half-helmet. Hail is still noisy :)

Why can't you see through the windshield? Is it scratched up, or distorts your vision? Scratches can be polished off.

Or, you could switch to a Road Glide, sit nice and comfy behind that fairing. (kidding)

2. The general rule is you want your normal head position, at the top, just over the
top of the windshield.
The manufacturer, or any manuf. website can help you get the right fit. Or the right one for you.
You should be able to see thru' the windshield. That's the purpose of it. And to protect you. If it's too low, it won't.
Also if it's too low, it will allow wind to bobble your head.
Don't forget your full face helmet. Particularly if you are going to a low windshield.

5. You should be able to easily see over the windshield
If properly adjusted, at most speeds it will push the wind up over the top of your helmet.

Under some conditions, looking through two layers of plexiglass/lexan (your face shield and the windshield) can make visibility pretty bad. Especially when riding into the sun.

6. Thanks
I didn't even consider the sun. Though my face shield has been great at cutting down the glare so far.

7. I agree with the others
You should be able to look over the top of it. Mine lines ip with the top somewhere between my nose and chin and it's perfect. Having to look through it is not a good thing, I can attest to that from recent ride experience. I went through a swarm of bugs so thick that they covered my windshield completely up in short order. If I had to look through it, I would have been fooked!
