Yosemite & Sequoia
I need a good ride. So next month starting on the 11th I plan to ride from Los Angeles to:
Sat. Mammoth Lakes
Sun Yosemite park and out to Mariposa
Mon Back into Yosemite park and down to Glacier Point the out to Fresno
Tues into Sequoia and Kings Canyon and out to road end in Kings Canyon and out to Porterville
Wed into Sequoia and down to Kernville, then back to Los Angeles

Mineral King is out. Road is way too goaty, that's a gs road.

But any other suggestions, comments, must sees would be appreciated.

1. This thread is useless ...
... without pictures.

Take plenty, and post them here. This sounds like a scenic ride. It's been a million years since I've been in Sequoia / Kings Canyon.

2. Half a million for me too. I'm still planning. Sometimes things go
according to plan, sometimes not.
I'm lining up the gas stations. Which are quite spaced out. And not all clear on the map or info or mapquest.
And lunches. As my blood sugar level needs a good lunch about noon.
The only thing certain is the night stops. But not the eta at them. Preferably just before dark.
I'm going to take the bus from the Yosemite valley floor to Glacier point. Then walk back. 4 mile trail down the zig zags. And great scenery of the valley & falls. Which are predicted to have no water left at that time, but I wonder.
I'm going on the 3 1/2 to 5 hour gold mine tour at Gold Cliff mine at Angels Camp.
Looks rugged and fun.
Still looking for more ideas, suggestions.

3. Well, I leave Saturday. I've had many suggestions. But I would
like to leave some flexibility also.
So.

5. Great stuff!
Man, is this a beautiful state or what? When it's not on fire, that is.

6. Actually, it is on fire. There was the smell of smoke, and then the
vision of a whole lot of smoke when I went into King's Canyon. And when I got near the end, I could see smoke patches coming up from the forest up the south side of the river, into the mountains. There has been a huge fire since July 11, and they expect it to burn another 2 months, til the snow starts.
At the end of King's Canyon it was very very smoky, and they had large plows I didn't look but probably building a fire break around the visitor center, which is huge.
Very few people there. They can't put out the fire, too big, only control it, get it to go where they want it to.
A photo about 1 p.m. It was much smokier in the a.m.

Kings Canyon, the Kings river below, and the road on the right (a tiny line, all downhill to the river, then along the river to the east).
Fun road.
