Any cold weather riders here?
With the seasons changing, I'm once again in the 'bundle up' mode for the morning commute. I will generally ride into the upper
20 degree range if there is no threat of snow or ice. Keeping the face shield fog-free is the biggest issue. One diehard here was
riding a GoldWing last winter with snow on the ground and temps in the single digits. That's plain crazy, IMHO.

2. I'll ride into the mid 30's. Have a nice jacket and socks plus
foul weather gear for layering. 'Course in Texas that's only a few weeks a year.

4. I've been pricing jackets
I think with what I've seen so far, I'll stick with the old one for a while.

The worst part is keeping your face from feeling like it's on fire after a twenty minute ride.

5. Check out this site:
http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/

I've bought two jackets and two helmets with 50% discounts and been very happy.

For warm weather around town I wear an open face helmet with wrap-around sunglasses. Cold weather freeway driving I wear a full face helmet with a scarf to keep warm.

6. For winter commuting in SoCal...
I'm out in the north of LA county where it gets cold at night. I ride through a canyon where it often gets into the low 30s in winter (if it's real cold I don't ride).

I wear a leather coat with a fleece liner, insulated over pants, thick socks, my winter gloves, full-face helmet and a neck warmer. The neck warmer is the shit. The leather coat is not riding gear. I should get something cycle-specific.

7. I have peddle and motor cycle in cold weather
One thing I found out I that you can peddle a bicycle almost 20 degree colder then you can ride on a motor cycle. Two reasons for this, first by peddling you are generating heat, which you do NOT do while riding on a motor cycle, second do to the fact you are going much slower (7-12 mph on the flats, lower on climbs and up to 40 mph down hill) you have less problem with wind enhancing the cold.

Yes, you will see people peddling bicycle at much colder temperatures then people riding motor cycles. The Bicyclists are just plain warmer at any lower temperatures then Motor Cyclists.

8. We have addressed this on the Bicycle Forum

Please note the emphasis is on BICYCLES NOT MOTOR CYCLES in these threads, but many of the comments apply to Motor cyclists in addition to Bicyclists.
