Seriously,

You all know I've been around DU for years. Usually in the main forums but have participated in some of the sub-forums as well.

Since getting my new bike I have had questions, thoughts, etc... and I can think of NO OTHER forum where so much info is passed on down to us novice bikers.

Now THIS is what DU SHOULD be like! I have read and read just about everything here and will continue to ask and read more and more.

:toast: to all of you who participate here. Really.

:yourock:

1. It's the way it's supposed to be.
Unfortunately, with a "big tent" for progressives such as DU, often some things we *like* doing get trashed for being the opposite of someone else's political agenda.

I know you see in the lobby all the comments like "I don't like motorcycles...", "...too dangerous..." etc.

I follow several groups here, but for the most part, I keep my opinions to myself. We'd get totally lambasted on GD or perhaps even in the lounge for making such a "shameful" statement that we took our bikes out for a 200 mile joyride last Sunday. We're then guilty of killing the environment while slurping up a limited resource just for our fun and amusement. Yeah, so what? I work damned hard to support my habits (good and bad) and I tend to enjoy them as much as possible...and to hell with anyone else's opinion of my being politically incorrect. (I bet they still take warm showers rather than cool ones to conserve energy.)

I guess coming from where I have been in life gives me a bit different perspective than a lot of folks. You could have kept the scooter if it was all about saving gas while commuting. Instead, you decided to ride something you'd enjoy a lot more - and I think I see you are!

You're not a "biker" by my definition, but definitely a motorcycle enthusiast. That deserves my respect and all the help I can give you from my 39 years of riding and repairing and playing with 'em. I'm sure others here feel the same way.

That being said, I despise the "RUBs" (rich urban bikers) who plink down $20,000 for a decked out Heritage Softtail only to put it on a trailer and perhaps get 2000 miles a year out of it. To me, they aren't even close to enthusiasts...they're rich folks looking to be something they weren't when they were teenagers.

You know you've arrived when given a choice of methods of getting from point A to B, you choose the bike because you know it's going to be more fun.

Enjoy your new ride and above all, stay safe! :toast:

2. staying safe is A #1 priority for me
:D

and hell, I gave up 75-80 mpg for 55 mpg. those sucka's in GD are getting about 29 mpg IF they practice what they preach! :D

If it isn't a monsoon or snowing, I'll be commuting my 30 miles each way on the bike. You can bet on that.

And, hell YEAH! it's fun!

:hi:
