Today I rode some 250 twisty, twisty miles as part of this relay benefit for Riders for Health. On the KTM, where the seat has all the comforts of a 2x4.
In a nutshell,
Riders puts dirt bikes, parts and maintenance expertise in the hands of health care workers in various countries on the African continent. The idea being many towns and villages are only accessed by a dirt track, and dirt bikes are faster than walking.
In another nutshell, we've been relaying this ostrich beanie baby named Pooey around for the past several weeks. Eventually he'll hit every US state, 10 Canadian provinces, then get flown to Hawaii for some riding, off to Australia, then Europe. Raising money all the way.
Anyhoo. I had a leg on this today. Events transpired yesterday to where I went a little off the plan to meet up early and get the bird from some weary riders, and on the way home (where I would "start" the next day) I took a detour to my favorite dirt road. I just love riding this thing. It's up on a mesa, maybe 20 minutes off the beaten path, lonely, and beautiful. So I thought I'd share.
This is my second favorite, a shot from last year. Not all the snow and mud is gone yet, so I haven't been this year. Behind the bike is the meadow, incidentally, from "True Grit" where John Wayne puts the reins in his teeth and yells something menacing before shooting the bad guys in an all-out horseback charge. Mostly, these days, it's pretty peaceful.
Who's got a favorite road to share?
