I had to buy gas today. Regular in my area is going for

$3.51 to $3.60 a gallon. Today Thom Hartmann mentioned that Citgo gets it's petrol from Venezuela, which puts 10% of it's revenue into social programs for the poor people of Venezuela. So searching around town, it turns out that Citgo in my area is pumped out of 7-11 and it's the second cheapest gas in my area, the cheapest being $3.51 today and Citgo charged four cents more a gallon at $3.55.

So I bought my $40 worth, which has to last me a month, because that's what I can afford and I feel a little bit better about not supporting the BushCo Oil/War industry. I didn't mind paying the higher price if some of that money is going for social reform.

1. I feel the same way, Cleita. I always try to go to Citgo or Hess.

I heard something a few months ago about 7-11 discontinuing their arrangement with Citgo such that they'll no longer be carrying Citgo gas. That will make Citgo gas much more difficult to find, I think. :(

2. If they discontinue it, then I won't be able to buy it because
it's the only station in a thirty mile radius from my house. Hopefully someone else will carry it.

3. Citgo is going away
The deal ended with 7-11 was because the contracts for supplying fuel expired and Citgo did not renew them. Venezuela is selling off the Citgo refineries and probably the Citgo USA subsidiary as well. As I recall, Hugo said the profits from running fuel stations wasn't worth the cost.

Plus, regular unleaded is a commodity, standardized, so no real difference. It's the premium level where there are brand differences, as part of the additive packages done to the commodity unleaded.

I usually buy from Citgo or Costco, because it's generally cheaper, but I won't drive out of my way to save a few pennies a gallon. I'll ride my bike to save money, uses zero gas. :)

4. Citgo was never out west
I usually buy from Circle K, the cheapest station in my area. It's only 2 cents a gallon, but it's also only half a block from the more expensive places.

Gas was $3.25 on Thursday. I'm expecting it to be 5-8 cents more expensive at the beginning of the week when I need to top up. They've been hiking the prices here just before the weekend to nail the weekend travelers.

At least I have a little Korean econobox instead of a big gas hog.

My other car is an electric scooter: http://www.egovehicles.com

I can't plug those guys enough, their product is great!

5. ? Your statement confused me...
NV, Las Vegas anyway, has Citgo stations. NV is "out west".

7. It cost me $50 to fill my tank last week.
At the gas station down the street from work. I don't remember which company it is; I don't buy gas there often, but it is competitive with the rest of the stations within a reasonable distance from my home.

Living rurally, I don't drive the extra miles to find stations farther away for a few cents less per gallon; it diminishes the savings, and actually costs more when you add in the time factor. My time is the most precious commodity I have.
