Abortion reporting bill fails in committee
"CHEYENNE -- The Wyoming House labor committee voted against a bill Friday that would have changed abortion reporting requirements in the state.

The committee voted 6-2 against House Bill 154, which would have required doctors who perform abortions to submit more detailed information to government health officials.
---snip--
The bill would have required doctors to provide information about patients' age and county of residence. Opponents argued the requirements would erode patients' privacy, particularly in small towns.

"People would be very identifiable," said Rep. Jack Landon, R-Sheridan, committee chairman.

Sharon Breitweiser, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wyoming, said existing reporting requirements made the legislation unnecessary

I'm glad this failed. I suppose it will be re-written and re-submitted. Intimidation tactic much?

3. unfortunately, there's some valuable info there that is now being missed

County of residence -- my understanding for quite some time has been that a majority of counties in the US have no abortion services. It really would be useful to know what proportion of women using a facility are from out of county.

Of course, that info could be collected and reported as residence in/out of county, rather than by identifying the location.

Age, too, would be useful info, so that particular problems could be identified -- pregnancies in school-aged girls, for instance.

Of course, that all assumes that public authorities want info so they can plan services. And methinks I might be assuming too much in this instance. ;)
