Gallup poll on choice...
...I'm linking this article in spite of my strong feeling that polls are bullshit, (especially any from msnbc). Given that this group is in need of an update, I decided this was worthy of discussion. But I'm not buying the results. Readers/members of this group are of course free to make their own conclusions.

Majority of Americans now ‘pro-life,’ poll says

For first time in 15 years of Gallup polling, ‘pro-choice’ is overtaken

updated 3:24 p.m. PT, Fri., May 15, 2009
NEW YORK - The Gallup Poll reported Friday that 51 percent of Americans now call themselves "pro-life" rather than "pro-choice" on the issue of abortion, the first time a majority gave that answer in the 15 years that Gallup has asked the question.

The findings, obtained in an annual survey on values and beliefs conducted May 7-10, marked a significant shift from a year ago. A year ago, 50 percent said they were pro-choice and 44 percent pro-life — in the new poll, 42 percent said they were pro-choice.

The new survey showed that Americans remained deeply divided on the legality of abortion — with 23 percent saying it should be illegal in all circumstances, 22 percent saying it should be legal under any circumstances, and 53 percent saying it should be legal only under certain circumstances.

1. I just read this article. The PP rep makes the good point that while claiming to be "pro-life"
(which is really just forced-birth,) over half the country still thinks that the choice should remain legal. Only 23% want a complete overhaul of Roe. But see, that headline wouldn't attract the divisive attention that AMERICA IS PRO-LIFE headline grabs.

Oh, what fun the talking heads will have with this.

American journalism is a joke.

2. The wording is a framing issue
That's why I too, always use the term "forced birth". "Pro-life" --just too precious for words. And inaccurate as hell.
