New morning-after pill works for up to 5 days

LONDON—A new type of morning-after pill is more effective than the most widely used drug at preventing pregnancies in women who had unprotected sex and also works longer, for up to five days, a new study says.
The report was published Friday in the British medical journal, Lancet.

Levonorgestrel, the most widely used emergency contraceptive pill, is only effective if women take it within three days of having sex. It is sold under various brand names including Levonelle and Plan B, and is available in more than 140 countries, including the United States, Canada and many countries in western Europe. In nearly 50 of those countries women can get it without a prescription

1. Exciting news....
...though it may be cost prohibitive for some women (once available). But would like to follow the progress of this drug, as something like this could help prevent pregnancy in rape cases where a woman can't be treated by a med. practitioner immediately.

Thanks for this, ismnotwasm! :hi:

2. It would be nice to have it affordable. For those within the 3 days, here is options
If you cannot get an rx, or cannot get the rx'd med, here is a website with options of typical OCs that will make up the right doseage. There are other websites with the info also.

to know about what the medicines are, how to take them, etc. Just in case.

Not that I'd ever practice medicine without a license, but it is nice to know things like this.
