Caffeine doubles miscarriage risk: study
"CHICAGO (Reuters) - Pregnant women who drink two or more cups of coffee a day have twice the risk of having a miscarriage as those who avoid caffeine, U.S. researchers said on Monday.

They said the study provides strong evidence that high doses of caffeine during pregnancy -- 200 milligrams or more per day or the equivalent of two cups of coffee -- significantly increase the risk of miscarriage.

And they said the research may finally put to rest conflicting reports about the link between caffeine consumption and miscarriage.

"Women who are pregnant or are actively seeking to become pregnant should stop drinking coffee for three months or hopefully throughout pregnancy," said Dr. De-Kun Li of Kaiser Permanente Division of Research, whose study appears in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology."

I posted this thinking about forced birth logic. If reproductive rights are taken away, on the premise that abortion is "murder", does the woman who drinks coffee and miscarries get prosecuted? Were does forced birth "logic" draw the line? At what point do they start blaming women, (actually as has been done for centuries) for miscarriages, low birth weight, or birth defects? What is the outcome of that? Not so many years ago, really, the attitude was save the fetus over the life of the mother in difficult births. The so called "partial birth" abortion ban is an example of this type of thinking. I've read rabid forced birth blogs where they absolutely feel a woman should prosecuted for abortion. Tried for murder. We have a front runner candidate for president, who would prosecute doctors for providing them. Heath care clinics like PP continue to be protested, or even bombed. Doctors are being harassed. Teenagers as well as adults are being given misinformation. Woman continue to feel ashamed for exercising reproductive rights.

These are not good times for reproductive choice or reproductive health at all.

1. Excellent question...!
I'd LOVE to hear a forced birther's views on this--particularly a response to your caffeine question. ;)
It might be interesting to post this in the Choice forum. DU's forced birth population tends to congregate there. You may get some feedback on this.

2. i wonder the same things about certain medications
if i were to get pregnant, i would have to go off my meds. and that could be a very, very bad thing. if i stayed on the meds and miscarried (let's say even before i knew i was pregnant), would they come after me?
