Juno and the Academy Awards---
Spoiler warning for anyone watching in a later time zone. Done proceed, if you don't want to know.

It won for best screen play. :( :grr::mad:

While it's cool to see women get this sort of recognition, I'm really bummed it was for this movie. I don't think a film that tells young girls they can be "cool" and carry a baby to term and give it away for adoption is a good thing on any level. Sorry.

1. Thanks for posting this, bliss.
I paid no attention to the Academy Awards so I have no idea who won what.

When I was logging in to check my e-mail, I saw a ticker tape (on the account's main page) with Oscar results. I haven't watched an entire Oscar telecast in years. Last year, I tuned in just for the final awards (Best actor/actress, director, film).

There's been such a dearth of interesting films in recent years. Maybe one or two a year. :( Disappointing for someone like me that grew up on films. The current crop of filmmakers seems obsessed with gore and horror--no stories, characters or depth. I won't even start on their proclivity toward violence against women. :scared::puke: I could write an essay on that alone. :eyes:

3. Have you seen "This Film Is Not Yet Rated"? It's about the MPAA rating system.
Kevin Smith was interviewed for it and discussed his experience with the MPAA. In the film he said that he thinks that films that depict violence against women should be given the harshest ratings.

4. Yes...!
I loved that film/documentary! Interesting how the films showing women experiencing sexual pleasure were always told they had to edit such scenes. :eyes: But it's just fine and dandy to feature women being raped, tortured, mutilated, etc.
