ND passed a law making every fertized egg a full legal person.
That's not the title of the news article, but that's a more informative title for what this article is about.

I don't think I need to list all the ways this is incredibly stupid, and undermines the rights of women. People here in this list certainly understand.

:(

ND House Passes Abortion Ban
http://www.kxmc.com/getArticle.asp?ArticleId=333726

The House voted 51-41 this afternoon to declare that a fertilized egg has all the rights of any person.

That means a fetus could not be legally aborted without the procedure being considered murder.

1. if i were still flowing
i would be sending every tampon and napkin to the ND House member(s) who proposed this idiocy, for inspection and investigation. let us hope that the free women of ND start doing so immediately.

these evil people are nothing but a bunch of pervo panty sniffers, looking for any way to get a cheap thrill at the expense of women's freedom.

4. LOL
What an excellent idea;

Dear ND house member; These napkins, (alas, no longer so sanitary I'm sorry to say) may contain some sort of Life even if it's bacterial. A wasted egg at the very least.

Please despose of as you see fit, I can't afford a proper burial, but since I don't know which one the egg is on, or even if I flushed it somehow, I would appreciate full honors for each one.

Sincerely,
A bleeding woman. (I know what it says in the bible, so I won't come in person, I am ritually unclean)

PS. I'll have more for you next month

3. Until they create a law...
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 08:29 AM by bliss_eternal
...stating that any and all men creating masturbatory emissions without intent to fertilize an egg will be charged with "reckless abandonment" and forced to sit through religious sermons that shame them for selfishly engaging in such a filthy, perverse act that deliberately disposes of precious pieces of life....until this occurs, I call sexist shenanigans on this pos legislation.

5. 'Personhood' bill defeated in North Dakota Senate
Source: Yahoo News -- Associated Press

BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota's Senate has rejected legislation to bestow human rights on fertilized human eggs, whether they be in the womb or in a laboratory.

Senators voted 29-16 Friday to reject legislation that sought to define as a human being "any organism with the genome of homo sapiens." The "personhood" status would include a developing embryo from the moment of conception, whether inside or outside the womb.

snip

Sen. Curtis Olafson, a Republican, spoke out frequently against the bill, saying it would make it difficult for doctors to treat problem pregnancies that could threaten the woman's life because both she and her unborn child would have equal status under the law.

At a Senate hearing on the legislation, two reproductive endocrinologists testified that the bill would complicate the practice of in vitro fertilization, which involves removing eggs from a woman's body, fertilizing them in a laboratory, and implanting a fertilized egg inside the womb.

Thank you, Ilsa!
:applause::bounce::party:

I was very concerned, given the other successful attacks on choice in this state, that it might pass. So glad it did not!

Cheers to the Senator that made this point:

I'm sure the in-vitro fert. doctors were concerned, it would definitely affect their bottom line.
