The deeper you dig, the more you learn! And there will be plenty of opportunity to learn about the cultural wonders of the human past and present during The Archaeology Channel International Film and Video Festival, opening Tuesday, May 20th, at the Hult Center in Eugene, Oregon.

The Keynote Speaker this year, appearing Saturday afternoon, May 24, will be Dr. Donny George, who was Director-General of Iraqi Museums at the time U.S. forces entered Baghdad in 2003. Known throughout the world for his strenuous efforts to protect the Iraq National Museum at that time and for his subsequent flight from Iraq in the face of security threats, Dr. George will be making his first West Coast appearance at the Festival. His talk is titled, "The Iraq Museum: The Loss of a Nation's Memory."

The Festival is the only juried competition of heritage films in the Western Hemisphere. The five-day event celebrates the wonders of human diversity with award-winning films from around the world. Topics that range from archaeology and ancient cultures to indigenous peoples and their environments will come alive with historic reenactments, powerful storytelling and amazing digital effects.

Producers from 17 countries submitted 81 entries for this year’s fifth season and all films will be available for viewing at the Video Bar in the Eugene Public Library. The top 18 films will be shown on the big screen at the Soreng Theater in the Hult Center and will cover topics ranging from the history of chocolate to a mysterious Egyptian tomb, the real story of Pocahontas to the great Inca rebellion, among many others.

By presenting stories about indigenous peoples and noted personages from different countries, the Festival provides a forum for timely inter-cultural dialogue and illustrates that although human cultures are diverse and distinct, we are indeed all one people.

This year, make plans to come to the beautiful city of Eugene (just an hour from the ocean or the mountains) from May 20-24th and immerse yourself in five days of culture, entertainment and inspiration!
