Amtrak sets Thanksgiving ridership recordBy Mark Berman
When it comes to holiday travel, it might seem like people only talk about airplanes and highways. But a record-setting number of people opted for the rails last week.
An estimated 720,000 passengers rode Amtrak between Tuesday, Nov. 22, and Monday, Nov. 28. That breaks the record set last year when 704,446 riders traveled on the rail system over the Thanksgiving week.
Amtrak had anticipated such heavy travel numbers, putting extra trains and cars with added capacity into service for the holiday.
