An overwhelming number of people would prefer property tax hikes and fare increases to packing more people on the TTC, according to an informal survey at thestar.com.
Of the 3,482 responses by noon Tuesday, 47 per cent — 1,648 votes — favoured a property tax increase to packing more people onto transit. Twenty per cent — 691 votes — supported a fare increase.
The results were in response to a report by the city manager Monday suggesting the TTC re-consider its loading standards to save money.
Only 11 per cent — 386 votes — favoured increased passenger loads to help the TTC make up an $85 million shortfall in its 2012 operating budget. ...........(more)
