I would like to start a pro-gun control group....

It seems that some people are reluctant to speak up about the subject, because doing so on DU can lead to personal attacks and ridicule. But there is power in numbers. If ten of us stand up and say "Yes, we believe that gun control is the only way to curb gun violence in this country, then we could have an actual group to talk about it without being put down or ridiculed. I don't mean to say that we should put down people who believe that gun ownership is guaranteed by the consitution. Only that there should be limits so that people can have a sense of personal safety. I know that there are at least ten people on DU who agree with me on this. Can we please get together and give it a try? I'm told by Skinner that only ten people have to agree to it. So please, please think about a discussion group involving the sensible regulation of guns and the protection of our citizenry, especially our children, from gun violence. Thank you. Please, please respond.

I'm sorta chicken about bringing up anything that makes people very upset. But that's just part of why I think guns are dumb, because fighting and killing are DUMB. Also I don't have much hope of people changing, I have relatives who think it's their most important right, like of ALL rights. I sure wish I had a right to CLEAN fricking AIR but somehow guns are more important to people :eyes:

the best we can do is to try and encourage better enforcement of existing laws

Having lived in countries that didn't allow personal ownership of guns and feeling a great deal safer than you ever do in the US it is hard to understand how an entire country can have such a love affair with guns.
