A rant about "curb shoppers"
As you may know, we had serious flooding here in Oshkosh (WI), with many homes having diluted sewage from the overburdened drain system backing up into their basements.

So, my neighbors and I are piling scads of ruined possessions by the curb for pickup: furniture, boxes, baby stuff, etc. And some MORANS in trucks and vans are stopping all the time to glean what they can from the piles.

I'm going to assume this very unhygienic material is going to show up soon on Craigslist or in the newspaper.

GROSS!!!

We took an ax and a black Sharpie to everything we thought someone might want.

1. I understand being pissed about that
but on the other hand, what's to stop people from going to the dump to retrieve that sort of stuff anyway? I always think about this when I'm at thrift shops -- although it hasn't seemed to deter me yet.

I think it would bother me more that somebody was benefitting from my disaster and taking things that I normally would not want to discard. But I guess if you just remember that they can do that at the dump too, then it's all the same. Just don't watch when they come to do it.

Anything that is purchased second hand should be suspected of the worst most awful things, and treated accordingly - which is why when I get something home, the first place it goes is on my bed next to my computer, lol -- wait, no, don't do that, first put it through the dishwasher or better, an autoclave if you have one (and boy don't I wish I did!)

All kidding aside, I'm sorry for the crappy weather you guys have been having, and all the tough times that came with it. Hope things are getting better though.
