weekend finds 7/26
Here's my treasure, from the Eagles Lodge Twilight Rummage Sale: a book from the 1920s filled with color plates of wildflowers. Paid a buck for it. The only copy I can find on the Internet is listed at $450. The one on the Internet is in a bit better condition, though.

The Twilight Rummage Sale was going strong tonight. The theme for the evening's music was "jungle" and the volunteer DJ had some crazy old stuff playing with animals howling. I bought a $2 grab bag for my niece (ritual) and it had really funny cute stuff in it. A sports watch, a crazy crocheted beanie, a magnet that says "Sometimes you just have to bitch!" and other stuff.

There was a lot of jewelry (which I never buy) and a lot of ash trays (Haeger particularly). I bought a pretty green Hall pitcher for $4. No dings.

I bought a package of B&W photos that turned out to have a lot of 8x10s of old steam engines, and a lot of photos of farmers and their horse-drawn hay machinery. Pretty cool.

I went to a yard sale earlier in the day that advertised postcards and paper, but the seller's prices were above retail, so no go. His wife kept hinting that she would just give it all away and he then would wave his cane at her. Hah! She volunteered to go in the house and bring out some of the "good stuff" and he nearly had a fit.

And there's still Sunday!

1. I went to a community tag sale at a little town in Vermont and it was great!
I spent $37 and got all kinds of treasures, including a black Hall pitcher in perfect condition. I think the find of the day will be a 1968 second printing of a Jimi Hendrix concert poster. I'm watching one on ebay to see what it goes for.http://cgi.ebay.com/68-Jimi-Hendrix-Flying-Eyeball-BG-105-2nd-Print-Poster_W0QQitemZ220261634275QQihZ012QQcategoryZ104768QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I also found a very neat, dark green seltzer bottle worth about $50 and a little watercolor by a Canadian artist. It was my favorite kind of sale. I filled up 2 large L.L. Bean bags in under 10 minutes, paid, then went back for a more leisurely browse of books. I bought 10 or 11 books by an author named Compton Mackenzie because it looked like someone's special collection. Some of his books are offered for a pretty good chunk of change on the book selling sites, but don't seem to do much on ebay. A couple have an inscription and I'm searching for an example of his signature to see if they might be signed by him. It's hard to read.

2. Hendrix poster is a great find
The first printing is probably $1000+ but the 2nd is very scarce too, and it's one of the most desirable Hendrix posters because of the artwork by Rick Griffin. I think it's worth at least $300 in nice condition.

4. Excellent!
I had some good finds this weekend, too. Stopped at a yard sale in the country south of Indianapolis and scored a nice box of Bob & Tom CD's and cassettes from the early 90's, many of them signed. For the uninitiated Bob & Tom are a comedic radio duo that hit it big here and then syndicated nationally. Collectors outside Indy can't get the early Bob & Tom stuff because it's all out of print and found in the wild usually only in these parts. I've spent a good part of the morning getting them ready for eBay.

Also found a nice stack of early 70's lp's that look like they were barely played. All at the same sale.

Vinca, I'd love to have a copy of that poster but it might be outside my budget. When you decide what you think you can get, please let me know.

Thanks!

6. I'll probably sell it for whatever the one on ebay goes for since
the condition sounds so similar. If that hits you as the right price, whatever it is, PM me.

5. Nothing

I found a cool straw beach bag, but somehow missed some breaks in the bottom so it's not so cool after all. I did get 3 of the old outside plastic noel candles that show their age, but that's just cuz I like Christmas stuff. That was it.

7. as the old country song goes...
..."some days are diamond, some days are stone."

We've all been skunked. I hate it when that happens.
