OK, so now I'm mad and I don't know where to post this. I guess
this group would understand part of it better than some of the GD folks but here goes:

I had my first political argument today at-of all places, the dump. We have a recycle swap shed and anyone is free to drop off or take anything they like. The general idea is to bring something, take something. I try to do that. It is packed with townspeople bringing stuff each week and very successful at saving money for all including the town. Not the point however.

Several of the "volunteers" are dealers. I know them all from my 25 years in the biz. Several other dealers show up each week hoping to find a goodie. The volunteers all grab everything of value that is brought in, under the guise that it has to be checked first (not true). Big pile of their scoffed up goodies behind the tables and their cars are always loaded. It gives no-one else a chance to find much other than used kitchen and general stuff. One dealer, like her mother before her is the most pushy woman I have ever met. I avoid her at all costs.

Today she had a political Mcsame button on..yikes...I thought I saw her last week with an Obama button. My mistake, I asked if she changed her allegiance.

She lit into me double barrel. Says she "You must not be doing your homework, are you kidding? Obama is a socialist and his wife is a bigot. Did you ever read her thesis?" Well, can't say I read the thesis but I told her good luck if the old fart gets elected and kicks the bucket. Then you will have barracuda sara as president. Says she, " better than that phony Biden....you can see where I'm going here.

It got a little more interesting but I finally walked away. Several people there expressed support for my stand. (Never mind they all hate this woman)

The only good part of the visit to the swap was that I came home with a brass fireplace fender like I used to sell at my shop. I'll sell it to a local shop for $25.00 or so and let them clean it up.
The only reason I was able to get the fender was that it was just being brought in as I left for my car. The witch didn't have a chance to see it.

I bet a political argument at the dump is one of the more interesting places to talk politics. She'll be in a real mood next Saturday. She is the type to come up to me and further express her feelings.

Not over yet folks. Maybe I'll just look at her and smile like I never expected anything else. She will know what I am thinking.

Rant over.
Happy Tuesday!!!!

1. That's funny . . . no really. A couple of weeks ago a similar thing
happened to me. I got into an argument about taxes with a known Repuke which culminated in my sputtering that money to pay the bills doesn't come out of the sky on a flaming pie. This was at our dump recycling shed, too. Fortunately we don't have "sorters," although the dump guys load up their trucks as fast as they can. Once in awhile you find something. Today I got a Herman Miller chair that I can make a couple of bucks on.

4. It's really quite astonishing what people leave off at the dump.
I never thought I'd consider myself a "picker," but last week I sold 2 items for over $850 on ebay that I had found at the dump. That's an atypical week, but I find something I can either use or sell almost every time I go there. It's lots of fun!

6. I live in a tiny town - there's only 1 "dump" and it's actually called
a recycling center because waste is sorted there and trucked to other locations for disposal or reuse. They built a small shed for people to leave stuff they don't want anymore, but think another person might want. In this lousy economy, I sometimes think it's the most popular place in town. Neighboring small towns do the same thing. I spoke to one woman in line at a church sale who frequents a similar shed about 50 miles from me and she told me someone left off a bunch of Lladro figurines! You never know what will turn up.

7. Same here as with Vinca. Town run shed located at the dump
transfer station. We're really not picking the dump, it's stuff left in a separate area for recycling by anyone who can use it. Call your town and ask if they are considering opening a "swap" shed. Our little building was built with donated materials and labor. Yes, it is the most popular place in town. It is the volunteers that screw it up and cause hard feelings. If the area was bigger, it would even be more successful.

They do not take TV's large appliances, computers, air conditioners but just about everything else can be given. My best find was at the initial opening about 5 years ago, Sitting pretty as you please, among the flower pots was a piece of yellow Marblehead Pottery.

I keep the faith that the vultures that volunteer for their own and scoff everything they can reach will be eliminated. There really does not need to be anyone there except perhaps a town employee to monitor the disposal of items that are not allowed. The things like TV's, computers, batteries, large appliances are charged a fee to be left at the transfer station itself. The town gets rid of those.

Ahh, small town
