"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." (From Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, 1594)
In this part of the planet, one the first signs of spring approaching are those hardy flowering bulbs pushing their foliage through the cold ground and producing yellow flowers. I've called these early flowers jonquils for as long as I can remember. However, there is an ongoing discussion with friends about the name. Are they jonquils, daffodils or narcissus? Rather than getting technical in this space, Laurel Kane has pretty much done the research and tells us here:

All-in-all, I assume that what really matters is what something is, not what it is called.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SALE OF THE CENTURY http://christies.com
The artwork that inspired late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent was auctioned by Christies last week in Paris. Billed as "the sale of the century," the auction of the 733-piece collection dispersed in three days a collection that took Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge half a century to amass. The top lot of the sale was Les coucous, tapis bleu et rose, 1911 by Henri Matisse, which sold for $46.4 million. The historic sale set a world record for the most valuable private collection sold at auction and realized $483,835,144. The proceeds of the sale will go to the Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, created to prolong the history of the House of Yves Saint Laurent, and to a new foundation that will be set up for scientific research and the fight against AIDS. Saint Laurent died last year at 71 after a yearlong battle with brain cancer.
