Does anyone know how this scam works?

I posted a ring for sale on craigslist. The responses have been hilarious & sad. Hilarious that someone thinks that I'm that naive, but sad that some of these scams have probably worked. Here's one that I can't figure out what they hope to accomplish: I got an email where he offered me 25% above my asking price then asked for my paypal address so he could 'deposit' the money. Is he hoping that I would give the paypal account and from there he could figure out my password? I just can't fathom what my paypal address would do for him.

Anyone know?

1. Found it.

Though I wouldn't take a notice from paypal as the Gospel: I would always log onto my account to make sure the money is there, but that's just me.

2. For some reason I don't trust craigslist at all.

It seems too open to scams. Someone tried to scam me on ebay once by purchasing a "buy it now" item and then telling me the money order was made out for too much so could I send a refund with the item. The "money order," of course, was not real. Fortunately she bought a whole lot of stuff during one overnight and we outed her before anyone lost money.
