ceramic people help me out here....

I have been picking up pieces of ceramic that are cream colored on the outside and of various hues on the inside. Often odd, eliptical shapes. Usually they are very inexpensive, and often unmarked. I just happen to like them. Mid century, probably studio made. The color inside might be a blue, a green, occasionally a rose hue.

Do you know what I'm talking about? And what is the name for this particular niche?

1. I always hate it when I post something and no one responds,

so I'm going to throw in my 2 cents: I have no idea what it's called, but it's very 1950's. I imagine it sitting on triangular tables next to butterfly chairs. If you ever happen to find out what it is, please let us know because I see this every so often in my travels.

I think it is called Modernist Studio Pottery, there was so much of it then, some better than most but very, very cool.

It only takes placement in a few magazine articles for it to take off. I buy it whenever I see it, and for just a couple of bucks.

...and then the value will soar.

Actually, I found out that Franciscan Gladding McBean made something similar -- not the more erratic shapes, but with the same kind of matte cream exterior and a beautiful green glaze interior. I happen to have one of those pieces and found the value to be just under a hundred dollars but.....found a hairline crack on my piece. Ah well...I like it quite a bit and am happy to keep it.
