I watched "Schmatta" last week, Eleny. I was extremely impressed with the production. Such a story. Such an era. And what a punch the message was. Tempus fugit.

2. Schmatta - My dad worked in the industry in shops in Brooklyn

He was a pocket maker, a trade he learned when he came to America around '27. He retired around 1973.

Dad is the youngish, smiling guy in the foreground.

4. "stuff" is my operative word

stuffed, comfy furniture and lots of stuff around it. but i am attracted to the peacefulness of an uncluttered midcentury modern room. they look so easy to clean! finding balance is the hard goal for me to achieve. my taste is eclectic and there's just so much storage space to be able to rotate things.

and then i have lots of my parents furniture and items that i love. a bigger house would be nice but impractical for two people.

a word about my parents things. just yesterday we got some news that meant we'd have a bunch of drop in visitors in the next couple of weeks. so before it snowed i ran out and stocked up on goodies that are easy to put out quickly. and then i wondered what i'd put them in. hubby and i are casual and mostly have people over in the summer when we can hang out in the yard with plastic bowls etc. but right now that just won't do.

then i remembered my mom's glass bowls like her little nut bowl, two big cut glass bowls from way back when and such. so i dug them out, put them in the top shelf of the dishwasher and set them out in the living room. they gave the place with sparkle here and there and fit right in even though our furniture is a hodgepodge.

i'm so glad that anything goes these days as far as putting together a room. my living room was starting to look dowdy. but the old cut glass bowls give the room a lift. and they're as practical as all get out. especially since i can clean them on gentle cycle in the dishwasher. (thanks, mom!)
