No markings. 8 inches tall.

I think it's very cool and could be a sleeper.

1. That is very cool. I wish I recognized the signature.
If I ran across that it would be an immediate "buy."

2. The bowl is not original to the stand and looks like a piece of
studio pottery. I think people are bidding on the stand. I don't know enough about Art Deco pieces to be able to differentiate between period and reproduction work , I wish Goodwill took more care with their descriptions and am always amazed that they get higher bids than Ebay does, I don't get it.

3. interesting observation!
Hmm. I wonder what might have originally sat in the base. A colored glass vase? An ash tray?

Do you think the cover is part of the pottery dish?

4. If it's a real period piece and not a reproduction ( and judging
from the bidding, it looks like the bidders think it's a period piece) I'll bet it held a Nuart glass ashtray. I'm not sure about the pottery, but it has a modern signature and looks like the cover matches it to me.

6. It sold for $20.99. I'd be curious to see what the person
resells it for.Of course, we won't get to see that. It looks like a rams head to me. I'm still convinced whoever bought it, bought it for the vase holder.

7. I did a double take this past weekend. Visited my daughter at
her new house and spent 3 days sitting for the kids.

My point: Sitting on top of her piano was this same squat covered dish. If you look at the 'other views' on the auction listing, you will note that one side of the knob looks like a shell. Hers did too.

Inside this crackle brown bowl is a simple decoration, some kind of a squiggly blue painting. It is the exact bowl, which leads me to believe that the unit was bought for the base or for the covered bowl but not for the complete unit. They never went together. Actually, on viewing this item, it looks like a married unit to me anyway.

8. so what did she say about the dish?
And could you get an idea of age from looking at it more closely?

How odd to see one in real life.

9. Hi, I didn't ask her about the dish. I was going to but I forgot.
Taking care of a 8 year old and an 11 year old took all my time and by the time my daughter and her husband got home, I had to head out to my place, 60 miles away before dark. Tell you the truth, I was exhausted. I raised 2 girls myself and never gave the 'exhausted' factor a thought. As a Granny, things are a little more exhausting.

My daughter is due here Friday for the day and I will make a note to ask her what she knows about the bowl. She is like her mother and grandmother and hits all kinds of shops & sales and picks up things she feels are of value and interest. She may not know anything more than that it attracted her. I'll let you know.

10. Morning! I e-mailed my daughter last night with several questions
and asked her what she know about the covered pot.
She a answered me that, as old as it may look, it is a piece of contemporary art pottery. I had her look at the shopgoodwill.com site and she confirmed that it is the same. This also tells us that the buyer was after the stand.

I wonder if the people at goodwill ever figured out they had two pieces from different eras. Thanks for following up.
