None of us may live in Hollywood, but I know that I could learn something about Hollywood memorabilia.

1. I'm watching it now, and I like it.

The people are appealing. They search not just in Hollywood, but follow leads elsewhere. They just sold the Mary Poppins carpetbag, which had been given away by the studio and sat in a basement for many years. It sold for $95,000. Now they are at the home of a woman in Toledo who has the actual hat of the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz. Joe talked her into letting it go to auction. Whee! This is going to be fun.

2. so the hat sold for $200,000

And a Bella Lugosi costume for >$100,000. And they visited Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island to talk to her about selling her memorabilia from the show. One item is her short shorts -- the first ones allowed to be shown on television.

I like to keep up on movie memorabilia because you never know what you're going to find.

4. I finally watched it and thought it was interesting.

I definitely know where I'll consign Hollywood memorabilia if I happen to stumble across it again. About 10 years ago I bought a miniature Oscar award that was used as a table decoration at the 1930-something ceremony and it sold for $5,000 on ebay. Big money in movie/tv stuff.

7. I enjoyed the show last night

They had a lot of King Kong stuff. I have learned some about authenticating props and movie posters. And learned some about going out and actively seeking to buy directly from collectors who might be willing to let some things go. Veddy interesting. The host of this show is quite a convincing guy. He builds a real level of trust with the people he wants to buy from.

9. so here's the rundown on last night's show

They found the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car! They will be putting it on tour to raise attention, and then in a future auction. That was very cool.

They looked for the remnants of the real Yellow Brick Road that were rumored to lie under the sound stage where Wizard of Oz was filmed. They decided that the bricks were not under the sub floor there.

They obtained a massive collection of Walter Lanz stuff from the man who was his archivist -- a man nearing death from terminal illness. In this, they found Walt Disney's headset from an early film, as well as thousands of items from early days of animation. Wow. They auctioned off a handful of items to get some money for this man's hospice care, and will do the bulk in a future auction.

Some other things, too. A costume from Star Wars, from a master leather worker located in UK.

10. Finally got the chance to watch the show

I set the DVR to record the series and watched 4 in a row last night. I like it and will watch the whole series. The 1/2 hour format is a good one for me and zipping past the commercials narrows down the commitment time.

The Lang collection was most interesting. Didn't you want to help sort everything out? And I was glad to see that it was going to help out the man who was so ill.

The company owner has an easy personality to watch but I bet he's nobody's fool. His wealth of knowledge is awesome.

11. so to recap last night's show.........

It was fun! They obtained a "golden ticket" from the girl who played in Willy Wonka! A real golden ticket. They met her at the top of the fabulous ferris wheel, and the view was just eye-popping.

They visited a high-end comic seller and obtained a #1 Superman comic which they sold at auction for $90,000, and a very early Green Hornet that sold for ten grand.

They visited a costumer called "Angels" in London that does the very best movie costumes. They had the "yellow dress" from Shakespeare in Love that was estimated at about $20,000. They didn't get any consignments from him.

And they held an appraisal fair in Hollywood and the citizens brought in some crazy stuff. Edward Scissorhands model props, etc.

I really enjoy this show.
