One house sale today here. The sellers were freezing outside.
I almost did not go but boredom sets in early on Saturday and if there is a sale, I usually button up and go.

These folks did not have much to sell that was of interest to me. Lots of toys and baby clothes. But:

In with assorted glass and kitchen-wares was this little gem for $5.00. It will make a great Christmas present for my daughter.

Beautiful condition, not chipped, not sick. Signed base and stopper.

Glad it was cold because I went 1 1/2 hours after it started. I may have missed stuff but this made my day.

Hope you all had some happy hunting.

2. American Cut Glass period, 1986 through 1917.
Perhaps if I spend some time, I can find the date of this decanter but that will have to be at another time. I am amazed that it is in such good condition. I always see decanters that have had contents evaporate inside and they end up looking sick. How would you ever successfully clean out something like that? I also find many with mismatched stoppers.

Check this link, good info.

3. Great find! I'm always looking for Hawkes glass, but never find it.
I dragged my behind to 3 pre-Christmas church sales. What a waste of time. I picked up a few smalls to sell for peanuts, but my time would have been better spent in bed. Last week I stopped at a sale though - the people set up midweek every so often to clean out a relative's house - and bought a Currier & Ives print in an old frame for $8.00. A dealer once told me when you find a C&I, don't sell it until you take it apart because often times people put multiple prints in a frame. So I did and, sure enough, there was a second print. I haven't figured out how much they're worth yet.

5. Same thing happened to us years ago.
We were at a huge flea market and my husband found a wonderful big old walnut frame with a gold leaf liner. The picture in the frame was awful but it was our intent to turn the frame into a mirror.

In removing the backing, we could tell there was more than one thing in the frame, it was too thick to be just the single print.

Voila, an old Currier and Ives print of 2 America's Cup yachts racing.

We had it authenticated(by the now defunct Haley & Steele) and was told it was a second strike of the original,(Large Folio), still worth about $400.00. Although we loved it, there was no place in my house to put it. Too many windows, too few large walls.

It sold to a friend who loved it.

He was happy and we make a great profit on it, even though we sold it to the friend at a huge discount. It now hangs on a wall in Phoenix.

I still have the frame turned into a mirror over my bedroom chest of drawers.
