'Tis the season to clean and polish. Today starts brass lamp bases.
I know you all have seen the grungy, discolored bases to some nice old oil lamps. Years ago, we just
gave up trying to clean the age and grunge from these bases. A lot of it came from folks polishing the brass stems while the lamp was together and in doing so, have left rings on the marble. Take the lamp apart and the marble on the inner base looks beautiful.

It is discouraging to clean up these lamps and be able to do nothing that will help the bases.

Anyone yet found a solution? This is a hundred years of atmospheric and household grunge. They are clean but way off color.

Thanks.

1. I googled and found a business that says marble "etching" can be polished out.
By polish, I assume they mean they've got a super duper polisher that does it. Maybe you should try to find a local business that sells stone countertops and see if anyone in the area could do whatever it is they do to get stains off. The site also said not to use vinegar on it.
