ebay's latest assault on sellers
I got an email this morning from ebay telling me they are going to start charging a final value fee on the combined total of the sale price AND postage. Supposedly it is to encourage sellers to offer the lowest shipping prices available. BS sez me. Now they get a fee for the sale, the transfer of funds to pay for it and this is the triple play, a fee for the postage. I'm really pissed off about it. So we're back at square one: where else to sell. I'm seriously thinking of making my own web site.

1. I have given a lot of thought to ebay but the stories just get worse.
This past week, I consigned some furniture to a new shop in my town. The owner is bright, very nice and is doing well as she starts out.
I sent a bunch of furniture to her and when some of it sells, I will consign smalls.
For all of you who sell on ebay, I feel sorry. They are beginning to act just like any old American corporation. Without the sellers, they have no business. If they keep it up with the fees, it will become a 'not worth it' situation.

On a brighter note, spring is almost here, house sales. flea markets, all the fun will start again. I was excited yesterday. I found a new thrift shop. They take anything but their main interest is in clothing so the smalls get priced very reasonably. Maybe I'll find the Faberge egg.

2. I've noticed the prices falling on Ebay as the economy falters.
A buyer's market these days.

3. I've noticed lots of collectible stuff on Etsy
When I'm interested in learning about an item and check "the Google" for pictures, very often a pic from Etsy shows up. And following that lead I've noticed that many had already been sold. So it works selling there.

I realize that you're familiar with Etsy but thought to mention it. I just don't know their fee structure.

Ebay's gouging days need to come to an end. If they made less off sellers, sellers might flock there. They just don't get it but the corporate mindset is infected by bad ideas, imo.
