The first official baseball uniform, adopted in 1849 by the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York City, was a simple outfit consisting of a white flannel shirt, blue wool pants and a straw hat. At this site, the Baseball Hall of Fame's Dressed To The Nines, you'll find a timeline of significant moments in the history of the baseball uniform, info about different parts of the uniform and images of every major league uniform worn since 1900.

Man + Antique = Mantique
Mantiques is the relatively new term referring to the latest generation of antiques and collectibles shows on TV. Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Auctions Kings, Storage Wars, American Treasures and others have a more manly appeal with their plethora of macho merchandise including military collectibles, muscle cars, old fishing rods & lures, old tools, breweriana, antique weapons, pin-up calendars, car parts and the like. We wonder if more men are joining their wives or girlfriends in scouting yard sales and flea markets. Will the "pretties" -- glassware, pottery, vintage clothing, doilies -- decrease in value while the manly stuff increases? Is this sparking a new interest in antiques and collectibles? The Chicago Tribune looks at TV's macho hunters and gatherers at the above link.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROYAL WEDDING STAMPS GO ON SALE http://www.royalmail.com
Britain's Royal Mail is celebrating Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding with a new set of stamps that feature their official engagement portraits. Two pictures of the couple taken by fashion and celebrity photographer Mario Testino will be printed on the set of commemorative stamps, which can be ordered beginning April 7. The collectibles have been approved by William and will be released on April 21, the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ QUIRKY ROYAL WEDDING MEMORABILIA http://tinyurl.com/QuirkyMemorabilia
Wedding collectibles and memorabilia abound across the pond as well as in the U.S. Along with traditional and expected commemorative items offered for the forthcoming wedding of Prince William & Catherine Middleton on April 29 at Westminster Abbey, the royal wedding memorabilia and collectibles market has been getting increasingly bizarre. Here are some items we've seen recently: ‘Kate & Wills’ meat pie, pet t-shirt, pointy-headed garden ornaments, tea bag holders, I-Pad covers, crown jewel condoms, paper dolls, Kiss Me Kate Beer and, for those who are already sick and tired of everything royal wedding related, how about "Throne Up" -- a paper sick bag! One of the most novel products spotted is the royal wedding special-edition GE American-style refrigerator emblazoned with a huge image of Prince William and Kate Middleton on its door.
