Have any of you been finding treasures at yard/church sales??

I need to hear some reports from the field. I'm in week 5 of rehab from total hip replacement and chomping at the bit to get out of the house on Saturday morning to hunt for goodies. My poor husband may be recruited to chauffeur me around in the next couple of weeks!:rofl:

1. Not much in my neck of the woods. Too cold and rainy.

Maybe in the next few weeks. It is always a crap game---for lack of a better word. Still looking for the Faberge egg!

2. I haven't been out AT ALL

And I really miss that aspect of my life. Even if I'm not going to sell anymore now that eBay's gone to hell, I still want to collect.

Obscure cookbooks. Linens -- especially lovely embroidered cotton pillowcases. Tablecloths. Books. Green pottery pieces. Ephemera.

I'm still mad at the dealer who ripped me off by moving with my consigned pieces, incidentally.

3. Not bad so far

We've been finding quite a few decent items at our local Goodwill Outlets. Several nice pieces of original art, an old 1850's engraving, and many other miscellaneous smaller finds.

I also lucked into a small stack of rare soul 45's at another thrift store back in February. Best single record find I've ever had--17 copies of two different 45's, each worth $300+.

For us the trick has been persistence. If any of you have access to Goodwill Outlets, they rock. New stock every 2 hours. It's a chaotic scene with a lot of crowd craziness and you have to dig through tons of trash and broken crap, but it's worth it. We have been coming home with $100+ worth of items almost every time we go, and the cost is usually no more than $10-20.

It seems that the craziness of our modern world is shaking loose a lot of treasures.

4. You all might have to talk me down today.

Two of my favorite church sales are happening, plus a bunch of great-sounding yard sales and I still am not allowed to drive! My husband has to go out of state for something and can't chauffeur me, so I'm stuck wondering if I'm missing the Faberge egg. AAAAHHHHH! I have to keep reminding myself that the original target date for going back on the hunt is Memorial Day. There's nothing more miserable than a housebound picker.

Vinca, I hope you are feeling much better and soon find treasures.

If Hubby still has to drive you around you may both consider he is not being 'reduced' but 'raised' by such a simple opportunity to help his housebound sweetheart from being frustrated to playing with her a game she certainly enjoys -- treasure hunting!) Besides, he gets to smile along if/when prizes go your way -- even ordinary ones (not just the Faberge egg, or something awesome like that) you may very well run into one of these days!

Your comment "There's nothing more miserable than a housebound picker" made me laugh at the tragicomedy of it all.
