Our Future Antiques
I went on a rare shopping expedition today - T.J. Maxx in search of a chef's mandolin. Anyhow, right inside the door I spotted a display of Royal Doulton lady figurines. You know where they're made now? Thailand. THAILAND! They say "Designed in England" on the bottom. I couldn't believe it. So the search for the mandolin continued and I ran across some blue and white Spode cup and saucer sets. MADE IN CHINA! Then there was the Royal Albert chintz - MADE IN INDONESIA! By that point I was so downhearted and depressed I brought the mandolin search to a screeching halt and left. I had no idea the British were selling out as fast as all the American companies.

1. Sad state of affairs. I wonder what the future will bring.
The English sold out on Chintz dishes too, used the same molds and transfers on some of the more popular patterns. What I am interested in right now and I think if I can learn this field there is some money there. EMO clothes. LOok up emo on ebay, right now the navy pea jackets and the old izod and members only, stuff I see in closets and have passed over I may start buying. Old van tennies. The eighties! I can't believe people are buying the eighties as vintage. what a hoot. Emo is short for emotional, I think. Does anyone know about this field?

2. How interesting. I'll have to check it out.
Our veterinarian's receptionist buys marked down, new clothing and resells it. I don't think she gets rich, but no one's getting rich anymore. I bypass lots of clothing from the 80's at church sales - this could open up an entire new area for me. Thanks for the tip.

3. Check this site out for emo stuff.
http://www.aldroid.com/emo/

I did some browsing this afternoon and the first place I'm going to start looking for emo clothing is our closets! Yike - now I really feel old, but this looks like it will be fun to search for. Thanks for opening up an entire new area of selling for me, demgrrll.:pals:

thrifts lookin all emo and stuff. I'm going to be looking too. Should be fun and lucrative too. I like both of those things.

6. In both Spain and France, when looking for gifts to bring home .......
.... we found it incredibly difficult to find **any**thing to bring home that was actually made in the countries we visited.

7. That's very depressing. Like trying to locate an authentic meal and
finding only Pizza Hut. I heard the other day that some of the high end, designer handbags are actually made in China and they have them stamp the black "Made In China" on black leather so people can't see it. The bags cost about $120 to make and sell for $1200. Another maker imports illegal Chinese workers to Italy so the bags can have an "Italy" stamp.

8. The Spanish leather was all (literally, every damned bit of it) made in "Cheena"
The sales clerk just shrugged as if to say, "What can I do?"

11. In an article about spotting fake bags, someone who sounds like
they know about Coach says that some of the authentic bags are made in China.http://reviews.ebay.com/How-to-spot-a-fake-COACH-bag_W0QQugidZ10000000000839005

Everything is made in China. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!

12. damn
I just checked that site and it seems the Coach bag I bought on eBay is likely authentic BUT I did find the words MADE IN CHINA printed on the inside label which has a serial # on it.

I like the bag just fine But ..................

13. I found a little Coach bag at a yard sale last year.
Like new for $3.00. It looks authentic, but I'm afraid to look closely. I think it was an older bag so maybe I'm safe.

14. I had some old Coach bags
however, they were pretty far worn. I have another older one too that is not being used at all. It is in decent condition and not made in China that is for sure. Hmmm ...

That was quite the find you got there!
